Christodoulou Evangelos
Evangelos Christodoulou is retired officer of the Hellenic War Navy with the grade of Lieutenant, specialized in submarines and currently owner and co-owner of three companies, whose main objects of work deals with maritime security and the use of new digital and disruptive technologies, primarily but not exclusively in merchant shipping, and in general in the maritime environment and relevant markets.
He holds an MSc in “Three-dimensional Computer Aided Graphical Technology Applications” (3D CAGTA) from the School of Computing of the Teesside University, a PgD in “Naval Artillery” from the Hellenic War Navy and has graduated from the Hellenic Naval Academy. At present he is a PhD candidate in the field of “Experimentation, shaping ideas and finding solutions in order to produce three-dimensional digital content, linear or Virtual Reality, for Dome Theatres” at the Department of Cultural Technology and Communication of the University of the Aegean.
His main goals during the past years were the following:
– as Head of the 3D Graphics Department of the Foundation of the Hellenic World (FHW), for more than 13 years, was responsible for its foundation, organization, management and operation.
– participated, contributed on, or created his own numerous digital productions and exhibits for movies, television, theatres, Dome Theatres, museums, cultural centers, festivals, WWW etc. as a production manager and/or 3D Graphics Artist, director, programmer, scriptwriter, editor, designer etc. His creations and productions have been temporarily or are permanently exhibited in the Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki, Archaeological Museum of Ioannina, Altes Museum of Berlin, Archaeological Site of Olympia and other Greek Archaeological Sites, Foundation of the Hellenic World, Ars Electronica Center of Linz etc. and have been awarded and distinguished in international festivals and conferences.
– for 13 years, till the end of 2016, he was Adjacent Professor in undergraduate and postgraduate studies, at the Department of Cultural Technology and Communication of the University of the Aegean, in the cognitive subjects of “3D Graphics” and “Virtual Reality”
– participated in several conferences with and without judges and numerous projects subsidized by the European Union, teach in several educational organizations of the public and private sector in Greece, organized international scientific conferences and seminars as Head of Organizing Committees.
Topouzelis Konstantinos
Dr. Konstantinos Topouzelis is Assistant Professor in the Department of Oceanography and Marine Life Sciences of the University of the Aegean and he heads the Marine Remote Sensing Team. He is a graduate of the Department of the Environment (University of the Aegean), holds a Master of Science (MSc) in Remote Sensing (University of Dundee) and a Ph.D. in Oil Pollution Detection from Satellite Data (National Technological University of Athens).
His main research interest focus on the analysis of remote sensing data, including satellite images and aerial photographs, in the marine and coastal environment. He has extensive experience in detection of oceanographic phenomena in satellite data, object-oriented image analysis, image processing algorithms and in coastal mapping with the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). He has authored more than 30 articles in international scientific journals and books, he is a member of the editorial committee of the Mediterranean Marine Science journal, a reviewer in various scientific journals and a leading researcher in international and national research programs. Prior to his academic career, he worked for the Joint Research Center of the European Commission (JRC-EC) in Ispra, Italy and in the private sector.
Papakonstantinou Apostolos
Dr. Papakonstantinou Apostolos is a Senior Scientist at the Department of Civil Engineering and Geoinformatics at the Cyprus University of Technology. He is a postdoctoral researcher at the Aegean University Cartography and Geoinformatics Laboratory with a scholarship by the State Scholarships Foundation since 2017. His current postdoctoral research focuses on the use of UAS (Unmanned Aerial Systems) in the creation of 2D & 3D imaging titled “The potential use of UAS (Unmanned Aerial Systems) for the geovisualization and mapping of coastal environments”. He holds a Ph.D. in Geoinformatics specializing in Geo-Visualization – Cartographic Imaging and Scale Issues (Department of Geography, University of the Aegean). He holds an MSc in “Cultural Informatics and Communication” (Department of Cultural Informatics and Communication of the University of the Aegean) and a degree in Physics (University of Ioannina). He has taught as a lecturer (ΠΔ 407/80) in the Department of Geography of the University of the Aegean while he has extensive teaching experience as a research associate in Geo-visualization and GIS. At the same time, he participates in research teams and projects of the University of the Aegean and Technological Educational Institute of Serres. He has published in numerous scientific papers, international scientific journals, book chapters and articles in international conference proceedings. He has edited cartographies of the “Atlas of the Greek Islands” as well as a large number of maps for research programs. He is or has been a reviewer in international scientific journals, ISPRS – International Journal of Geoinformation, MDPI – Remote Sensing, MDPI – Geosciences, Journal of Surveying and Mapping Engineering (JSME), Convergence: The International Journal of Research into New Media Technologies.
Melas George
Doukari Michaela
Doukari Michaela is a PhD candidate in the Department of Oceanography and Marine Life Sciences of the University of the Aegean and a member of the Marine Remote Sensing Team (http://mrsg.aegean.gr/) since 2016. He is a Surveying Engineer, with a Master’s Degree in Geography and Applied Geoinformatics from the Department of Geography, University of the Aegean. Her doctoral research focuses on investigating methods for gathering reliable information in coastal and marine environments using Unmanned Aerial Systems (UASs) for marine habitat mapping. Her research interests focus on collecting and editing aerial photographs using UASs, visualizing geospatial information in two and three dimensions using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and computational vision algorithms (Structure from Motion), as well as processing satellite data. Her involvement in research projects at the University of the Aegean has led to publications in scientific journals and participation in international conferences on the collection and processing of geospatial information using UASs and Remote Sensing applications in the coastal and marine environment.

LLM in London. Expertise in handling and supervising P&I, FD&D and H&M claims related to tankers, passenger vessels and cargo vessels by collaborating with stakeholders involving large scale incidents and accidents; Ability to accurately prepare, review, draft a wide variety of business contracts and related documents, in particular charterparty contracts and vessel purchases – sales agreements. Poulakis Orestes Kyriakos
Orestes Kyriakos Poulakis graduated from the Department of Cultural Technology and Communication of the University of the Aegean at 2013, he then continued having a Master’s Degree on Cultural Informatics and Communication on the same department of which he graduated on 2015.
At present, he is attending a second Master’s program in Cognitive Science at the University of Athens. He is interested in Natural Language Processing, working on his thesis on text segmentation. On programming languages, he is most familiar with Java and Javascript which he used both during his studies as well as on personal projects, such projects include web applications such as a password generator and a tool for creating interactive stories, both written in Javascript. His previous theses were on the evaluation of graph’s nodes and visual representation of nodes, both written in Java and XML. He now works at A.S. Prote Maritime Ltd as a researcher.
Charvalis Georgios
Charvalis Georgios graduated with distinction from the Department of Geography of the Harokopeio University of Athens Faculty of Environment, Geography and Applied Economics. Finished his two year joint MSC program in “Geo-information Science and Earth Observation for Environmental Modelling and Management” in Lund University of Sweden and ITC-University of Twente, the Netherlands. He has working experience in remote sensing research projects, GPS field work campaigns, geographic database management, cadastral and thematic mapping, primarily as a remote sensing and GIS analyst. At present he is actively engaged in research of recent UAV technologies in various applications regarding the aforementioned fields. He is a certified UAV pilot of the categories A1,A2,A3.
